Accommodation

  • What type of accommodation does Kaka Point Holiday Homes have?

  • We have a variety of holiday homes available from basic bach to four bedroom homes. These are not motel units so you can enjoy your own privacy without intrusions from other guests or staff associated with motel complexes. The homes are exclusively for you and your guests, you will not be sharing with anyone else in the home you choose. The homes are fully self contained and self catering so you do not need to bring any linen or cooking equipment. 

  • Are pets allowed?

  • Yes in some houses they are, check the link beside each home called house photos and details to see if pets are allowed in that home. It is the pet owners responsibility to clean up after the pet both inside and outside  home.

Bookings and Enquiries

  • How do I make a booking or enquiry?

  • Each house has a calendar showing dates available and how many people can stay based on beds or sleeping facilities.Just click on the Booking/enquiry link beside the home you are interested in. Once the email  window appears just tell us which dates you are wanting and how many people you are wanting accommodation for.

  • When do I receive my booking confirmation?

  • Once the deposit has been paid we will send you your booking confirmation email that day.

  • Where do I get the house keys and directions from?

  • You will receive directions to pick up the house keys on our confiirmation email once we have received your deposit. If you are not familiar with the homes location we will take you to the home at an arranged time of arrival.

  • What time is Check in and Check out? 

  • Check in is 2 pm and check out is 10 am. Our hours of business are 8 am to 8 pm Monday to Sunday, if you require a check in later than 8 pm please notify us of your intended late arrival.

Deposits and Payments

  • Do I pay a deposit?

  • Yes a deposit of NZ$100.00 is required to secure the booking and the balance of payment is due 14 days before arrival.

  • Can I pay by credit card?

  • Yes you can pay by credit card online.

  • Can I pay by Direct Credit Deposit Online Banking?

  • Yes direct credit is accepted, we will send you our banking details via email.

Cancellation Policy

  • What if I have to cancel my booking?

  • In less than one month you will lose your deposit.

    In less than 48 hours you will be charged for the entire stay.

Food, Bank & Petrol Services

  • Where can I buy groceries?

  • Kaka Point has a shop, restaurant and bar. The restaurant and shop serve very good take away and dine in meals but the shop has only basic grocery supplies. For a larger choice of items you will need to visit a supermarket. Depending on which way you are travelling to Kaka Point there are supermarkets at Balcutha (22 kms from Kaka Point), Invercargill 144 kms from Kaka Point or Dunedin 120 kms from Kaka Point.Where can I buy petrol? Kaka Point has no fuel stations. If you require fuel the closest fuel stations are at Balclutha (22 kms from Kaka Point) and Owaka (24 kms from Kaka Point). Where is the nearest ATM or bank? There are no ATM's in Kaka Point. The shop has eftpos facilities but only a limited amount of cash can be withdrawn. The closest banks and ATM's are in Balcutha (22 kms from Kaka Point).  

Warning

  • Nugget Point Road

  • The road to Nugget Point requires careful driving. It is very easy to be distracted by the wonderful scenery so remember to keep to the left of the road.

  • Yellow eyed Penguins (Hoiho)

  • The Penguins are a must see, these cute creatures are very shy and cautious so that is why they are viewed from the observatory or hide at Nugget Point. They usually leave in the early morning to go out to sea for food and return in the early evening to their nests. Remember to bring your camera for some wonderful photo oppertunities but remember that Penguins to not like flash photography. Plan your arrival so you have time to see these wonderful animals. You will need to take the road to the Lighthouse and just before the cark park to the lighthouse on the opposite side of the road is the sign to the Penguin observatory(see below). The same road warning applies when driving on this road.

  • The Catlins Area

  • If you are wanting to see natural wildlife and outstanding scenery that includes rugged coastlines, beautiful beaches, waterfalls, caves, native forest, river or beach walks, and historical sites or want access to a variety of recreational activities then the Catlins Region is where you should definitely visit for a memorable holiday. The Catlins Region offers spectacular coastal views and untouched flora and fauna. The wildlife includes the Hector Dolphin, Hooker Sea Lions, Fur Seals, Yellow eyed Penguins and many sea and native birds that also frequent the area. This area is a photographers dream with the hugh variety of sights available. Questions or Problems

  • Are there medical services available?

  • Yes there are 24 hour services available. If you have a medical emergency then phone 111. If you do not have cell phone service available then please come to 5 Moana Street Kaka Point. There is a medical centre in Balclutha 15 minutes from Kaka Point. There are also pharmacies, physiotherapists, dentists and other health care professionals available in Balclutha.

  • If there is a problem with my accommodation who do I contact?

  • You will find our contact details on our business card which is with your receipt or on the information folder in each home. We will respond quickly to solve your problem, we have someone from our staff be with you within 15 minutes.

  • We have broken something at the home what is the policy?

  • We realise accidents do happen, things get broken and appliances stop working. Please notify us if this does happen so we can replace the damaged goods for the next guests. For broken cups, glasses or bowls it is appreciated if you leave some money for these to be replaced. For any major damages please contact us as soon as possible.

  • Our experienced staff can provide regular lawn mowing, weed spraying , refuse removal or any garden maintenace service you require on a regular or one off basis. Just contact us by any of the provided contact details.

  • We have a fully qualified painter and decorator with many years experience in the trade available for all aspects of the painting trade, no job to big or to small. Just contact us by any of the provided contact details.
